myGmaps allows you to create your own google maps, like the flickr + google maps and various other services I’ve been blogging about recently.
Here’s how to do it in just three steps…
1. Visit the conference/event website and get the address of the venue
2. Input the address/postcode into streetmap. When the map comes up, scroll down to below the map and use the "Click here to convert/measure coordinates" link:
3. Once you have the latitude and longitude to myGmaps (if you already registered and started a new map") and input the above information along with a description of the thing you want displayed on the map (eg. "Online Community Meeting"):
The result should look something like this…
After registering, it took me about 10 minutes to create my first map. It would have been a lot quicker than that had I not tried to add events in Budapest, Estonia, and Dijon during my first attempt. Google maps currently has limited coverage so, when I eventually found the latitude and longitude for these, they caused the script to return an error.
If you’ve got an event you’d like me to add, please send the address or, better yet, the latitude and longitude of the venue!
