Dan Gillmor, whose name crops up in more sentences about citizen journalism than there are ands or buts, is writing a series of articles for BBC News Online. Gillmor is author of We the Media, a book about technology and the development of grassroots journalism. After giving up a paying job as a technology journalist for the San Jose Mercury News, Gillmor set up Bayosphere, a citizen journalism project that didn’t quite work out. He’s now gone into academia and, no doubt, has a few more projects coming soon. As for his BBC series, I’m expecting a few good links, a healthy dose of hype and, well, his name cropping up everywhere…
[Update: There’s also a lively debate about Gillmor’s first BBC article]
