Roland Piquepaille who authors the blogs technology trends and blogging for companies, as well as posting to the zdnet emerging technology trends blog and smartmobs, has published his top five guidelines for writing blog posts:
Choose an interesting subject
Find references and pictures
Check all the facts
Pay attention to presentation
And always think about the potential reader
A good list, particularly for factual blogs, but I think I’d also add:
Make sure that when you’re choosing your “interesting subject”, that it’s one you’re obsessively passionate about
find a tone of voice that suits your audience – and you
Respond to comments on your posts (or wherever they appear) and use technorati to find and participate in the conversation you become a part of (here’s Roland’s buzz)
Keep track of the comments you post using co.mments
Subscribe to RSS feeds of the above to make it more efficient
Feel free to add your five, either as a comment here or as a link to a post on your own blog…
