new news site: what’s daylife all about?

Word is starting to get out, and spread, that a new news aggregation and filtering site backed by people like Jeff Jarvis, Michael Arrington and Craig Newmark is, after a year of speculation and scant detail, set to soft launch on Monday.

The website is short on details but the jobs page does say at least confirm that they’re launching what they hope to be a “large-scale, cutting-edge consumer facing web offering” and that it’s “a new online news company”. What’s that mean? Bivings picked up on the following quote in the paidcontent piece:

“The mission is to gather and organize news in ways that are most relevant to the user. That could be by event, topic, author, geography or other factors. Source pages that show what a journalist writes about or who is quoted are part of the mix.”

You can tell it won’t belong before we know more. Back in October, Jarvis let a bit more info about daylife slip when he said that the new site will, in some ways, be in competition with Inform. That went almost unnoticed. Now he’s practically having to bite his tongue (and no doubt some of the others involved, who include a number of big name bloggers, having similar problems keeping mum) and they’ve still got two long days and a whole weekend to go… keep an eye on technorati.
