Next month I’ll be in New York City to attend a Networked Journalism Summit that’s being organised by Jeff Jarvis, hosted at CUNY, and is funded by a grant from the MacArthur Foundation.
The list of attendees is quite impressive, with a wide range of people from citizen journalism, academia and mainstream media. The Summit blog will contain brief introductions about the projects each of us has been involved in.
Surprising as this is considering I grew up in the States and have lots of friends in the UK who have been back and forth to NYC dozens of times, this will be my first visit to the city.
I’ve already discovered insanely cheap flights but would appreciate any help or advice readers can offer on inexpensive but clean, and hopefully even friendly, hotels or bed & breakfasts in the area close to the CUNY campus.
Oh, and if anyone fancies rustling up some dinner on the 8th or 9th of October do post a comment or drop me an email as I’d really love to meet up for a good meal and chat on what will otherwise be idle evenings on my lonesome.
I stayed at the Pod Hotel the last time I was in NY – I can recommend it – http://www.thepodhotel.com/
Looking forward to seeing you at the Network Journalism Summit.
Ah John beat me to it. I was also gonna recommend The Pod Hotel (formerly the Pickwick Arms). Rooms start at $99/night for singles with a shared bathroom (but a screen showing you availability), and all rooms have an iPod dock & flatscreen TV. Plus the layouts are kinda cool.
