what’s surprising about a 30k minimum for Guardian staff? Too much or too little? I’m a little out of touch with journalists’ salaries. I would hope that since we’re talking about a national newspaper 30K isn’t too much to ask for as a starting salary…
I don’t think it’s too high or too low, I’m just surprised it’s that much – I would guess that the vast majority of BBC staff engaged in journalism and content production roles aren’t paid 30k – I’m thinking of all the Broadcast Assistants, Assistant Producers, some Broadcast Journalists and Producers as well.
It’s certainly a wage that most people could live on although single earner / single parent households, particularly in the South East and London, could find that difficult.
